Would my water type (hard or soft) have an affect on how well my shampoo works?

it is easier to get a lather with softer water, and hard water leaves minerals in your hair that make it dull. lather doesn't mean its working better, but it does seem to be easier to get out when it does lather.Would my water type (hard or soft) have an affect on how well my shampoo works?
